Executive Bios

Samir Arora, Founder, Chairman, and CEO
Samir Arora founded lifestyle hub Glam Media to create a better way for brand advertisers to connect with their audiences on the Web. A tech-industry veteran, Arora was previously the chairman of Emode/Tickle, Inc, which was later sold to Monster in June 2004. Prior to that, Arora was chairman and CEO of NetObjects, Inc. where he drove the creation of the first web site building product NetObjects Fusion. Arora also currently serves as chairman of Information Capital LLC, a venture-capital fund based in Woodside, Calif., that invests in leading-edge "big idea companies" in consumer publishing, media, and technology. Fernando Ruarte, Co-Founder, CTO and EVP,  Engineering
Ruarte is a seasoned information technology executive with over 15 years of experience and was founder and former VP of engineering at ViaFone, NetObjects, Extended Systems, and SIF. Ruarte developed one of the first content management systems for the Internet in 1995.
 
Stephen Recht, CFO
Recht has more than 30 years of operating and finance experience, including IPO, secondary and private venture funding. Prior to Glam, Recht was CFO at Shutterfly, Inc., where he was recruited to prepare Shutterfly for an IPO, which was completed in September of 2006. Prior to Shutterfly, Recht held CFO or COO positions with SkyStream Networks, Brience, Allegis and NetGravity/ DoubleClick. He has directly managed operations meeting Sarbanes Oxley requirements of public companies at both a board of directors and CFO company level. Recht holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Economics from Stanford University.

Cicogna has more than 30 years of experience in financial management, from startups to Fortune 100 companies such as IBM, NetObjects, Turbolinux, and NXN, and has also managed a successful IPO. His strong background in international relations and acquisitions has made him instrumental in the growth of Glam worldwide.
 
Jack Rotolo, EVP, North American Sales
Jack Rotolo built the original sales team at Glam Media that helped propel the company’s strong launch in 2005. His unique background of brand marketing, technology sales and media industry experience makes Rotolo the ideal sales leader to direct the company’s North American advertising sales efforts. In his role as EVP of North American Sales, Rotolo is responsible for all advertising sales and client services for the US and Canada. Rotolo has more than 23 years of sales and executive management experience working for world class brands including PepsiCo, Apple Computer, and NetObjects.
 
Bernard Desarnauts, SVP, International and GM EMEA
Desarnauts has more than 18 years of experience as an entrepreneur and executive with Silicon Valley technology, Internet, and new media companies, including Borland, Bitfone, NetObjects, and ViaFone.
 
Joe Lagani, VP, Glam.com and Women's Channel Brand Sales
Lagani launched and set the strategic direction for Glam's new living channel, GlamLiving. Formerly VP Publisher at House & Garden, he was named Conde Nast's "Turnaround Publisher of the Year" for 2006. Prior to his role at Conde Nast, Lagani served as vice president and publishing director for Meredith Corporation, where he oversaw the operational management of several important business units including Country Home, the American Baby Group and Traditional Home.
 
Dianna Mullins, Co-Founder,  SVP, Ad and Network Operations and VP, Glam Culture
Dianna Mullins, Co-Founder and SVP Ad & Network Operations, Glam Culture Mullins has more than 25 years of corporate operations and organizational development experience at companies such as Brocade Communications, NetObjects, Rae Technology, and the Women's Leadership Institute. She is also founder of the Beverly Mullins Scholarship fund at UC Berkeley, giving scholarships to single parents for the past six years.

Jennifer Salant, VP, Business Development
Salant comes to Glam Media after more than seven years with iVillage, where she led the business development team and oversaw secondary advertising revenue, licensing agreements, and digital commerce. Earlier in her tenure at iVillage, she helped chart the company's strategic partnership efforts. Prior to joining iVillage, Salant was a business analyst for Mitchell Madison Group.
 
Raj Narayan, Co-Founder, Architect and VP, Engineering
Narayan developed the first page-layout editor for the Web and holds two key Internet patents. His work has enabled more than 10 million websites and over a million e-commerce stores. He worked as a principal engineer at NetObjects, Ibizu, diCarta, and Zaudhaus.

Bruce Jaffe: As former corporate vice president for corporate development at Microsoft, Bruce Jaffe was responsible for evaluation and execution of Microsoft’s acquisitions, strategic investments and joint ventures. Prior roles for Jaffe at Microsoft included corporate vice president and CFO of MSN, where Jaffe oversaw the transition from an Internet-access business to a formidable advertising business.

Susan Kare: Kare created the interface graphics for the original Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows 3.0, and is a recipient of the Chrysler Design Award. Clients of her design practice have included Autodesk, Facebook, Getty Images, Hyperion, IBM, Intel, Intuit, Motorola, Nokia, San Francisco Water & Power, Siebel, Swatch, and Weatherbug. She recently created a line of retail products for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Rich LeFurgy: Co-Founder and Chairman of Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), Starwave, ESPN.com, NFL.com, and NBA.com, and as senior vice president at Buena Vista.

Catherine Levene: Former Vice President, Product, Business Development, and Strategy, at New York Times Digital, Showtime Networks, and Firefly.

Jarl Mohn: Jarl Mohn, also known as Lee Masters, was Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Digital, Inc., a publicly traded company focused in interactive television, cable television networks, and Internet enterprises. He served as its CEO from June 1999 to March 2002. Prior to Liberty Digital, he was founding president and CEO of E! Entertainment Television. From 1986 to 1989, Jarl was executive vice president and general manager of MTV and VH1. He began his professional life with a 20-year career in radio. Jarl currently serves as Chairman of the board of CNET Networks and has served on the boards of E.W. Scripps Company, DMX Music, Liberty Digital, and LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation. He is also a trustee of numerous nonprofit organizations.

Greg Rogers : As the Director Strategy & Insights for Mediaedge:CIA, Mr. Rogers founded the analytics practice for the interactive and emerging media campaigns. He was instrumental in growing client media dollars for the agency through analysis and optimization techniques that he helped create.
Mr. Rogers received his BA from Harvard and his MBA from UCLA.

Phil Schlein: Venture Partner, U.S. Venture Partners, former President and CEO of Macy's California. He serves on the board of directors of Catalist, Specialtys, Auction Drop and Oakville Grocery.

Rick Smolan: Chairman of Against All Odds Productions, creator and author of best-selling books including America 24/7, A Day in the Life of series, Passage to Vietnam, 24 Hours in Cyberspace, and One Digital Day.

Josh Stein: Managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, his current board responsibilities include: Box.net, Clipsync, Eventful, Payperpost, Personiva, Polaris Wireless, Sugar CRM, and ViVotech.

Matt Straznitskas : Matt Straznitskas has more than 12 years of digital marketing experience and has led relationships with key client partners such as IBM, Best Western International, LL Bean and The Scotts Company. Today, Matt serves as the most senior client service professional within MEC’s digital practice. He has driven the integration of new technologies within the agency including search marketing, rich media and mobile. Matt is widely published and a thought leader in the media and marketing industry. A frequent speaker at industry events, Matt wrote the digital marketing book “Mastering Photoshop for the Web (Sybex),” which has been published in more than 10 languages around the world.

Vic Zauderer: An experienced designer and information architect, whose clients have included Williams-Sonoma, Juice Beauty, Studio Archetype, and The Republic of Tea.

Karin Marke, VP, Sales, Western Region
Marke previously was vice president of sales at MySpace. Prior to her role at MySpace, Marke held key sales and sales management positions at FastChannel Network and Terra Lycos. She brings a strong background in the fashion and beauty retail space, having worked in sales and marketing for Sam & Libby as well as the Cricket Company. Early in her career, Marke gained experience at Hearst magazines in the sales department for Cosmopolitan, House Beautiful, Harper's Bazaar, Connoisseur, and Esquire.

Chris McNicholas, VP, Sales, Midwest Region
McNicholas brings 18 years of Sales Management experience to Glam Media. She has a track record of building first class media sales organizations while delivering record revenue growth. Most recently Chris was EVP of Sales and Services for fast growing retargeting experts, Dotomi, Inc. Prior to that she was SVP of Sales and Services for Q Interactive where she led the company to record revenue and profit levels. She began her Sales career with the Nestle Food Company. McNicholas earned a B.A. from Illinois State University, Normal and a MBA in Marketing from Loyola University, Chicago and holds numerous awards for her sales and marketing achievements.

Jody Salamirad, Director, Southwest Region and National Entertainment Sales
Salamirad is a seasoned internet sales veteran with more than 12 years of experience in the West coast. She has focused on the Southwest Region and Entertainment specifically for the past four years, where she was responsible for overseeing and developing the Entertainment strategy at Myspace.com as well as Glam Media. Prior to joining Glam Media, Salamirad held various Sales roles at Terra Lycos, Classmates.com and Myspace.com.

Alison Kennedy, Director, East Coast Sales
Kennedy is a seasoned internet sales veteran with more than 9 years of sales experience in the women's lifestyle space. Previously with Scripps Interactive for 8 years, she was among a handful of people to launch their Interactive Team. During her last 3 years at Scripps, Kennedy managed the NY Sales team where she consistently over-achieved sales quotas and experienced great year over year growth. Kennedy joined Glam in January '08 where she helped launch and create the strategy for Glam Living. Kennedy is now responsible for managing Glam's East Coast Sales team across all verticals.

Hirt also served as a director of the board of the ADMA, Asian Digital Marketing Association and is the author of the forthcoming book 8W8 - Global Space Tribes, www.8W8.com.

Yukihiro Yamamura, VP Glam Media and CEO, Glam Japan
An Internet pioneer in Japan, Yamamura has focused on the brand advertising market and launched one of the leading portals and women’s destination sites in Japan. As CEO of DoubleClick Japan, he set up the first Internet advertising media network service in Japan. In 2002, Yamamura launched Excite as a subsidiary of Itochu Corporation and managed it as a separate, publicly listed entity. In addition, he managed Excite Japan’s business strategy, IPO in Japan, increase in sales revenue and user base expansion. During his tenure as CEO, Excite Women Japan became the country’s number one Web property for women. Earlier in his career, Yamamura managed business development and sales divisions for Trans Cosmos, Inc., an IT and marketing services company. Yamamura holds a B.A. in French Literature from Tenri University.

Shakeel Mughal, Commercial Director, Glam UK
Shakeel has 13 years of advertising, sales management and media experience across magazines, newspapers and online in the United Kingdom. He held management positions on Marketing, Stuff and Maxim magazines before joining Associated Newspapers to launch Metro, the free morning newspaper as Head of Agency Sales. After five years working across the business in various roles including Head of Client Sales and Head of Commercial Enterprises he left to join the online industry at Handbag Publishing Group where he headed up all commercial activities as the Group Sales Director. The Group and network of sites was subsequently acquired by Hearst Digital.

Joel Cymberg, Publisher and Ops Director, Glam UK
Joel founded a variety of rich media technology companies including First~Media, Digistream, and Clipstream. Prior to digital media Joel was a principal at Grenadier Capital (a corporate finance boutique) and has worked for a range of other financial bodies. Joel holds an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Katja Dalhöfer, Commercial Director, Glam Germany
Dalhöfer has been within the interactive media business for more than a decade. Before heading up the sales team of Glam Media Germany she founded Codex Media in 2003, and as its CEO successfully managed the company to become the leading agency in Germany for marketing and targeting the female audience online. Prior to her entrepreneurial life, Katja gathered experience with PR agencies, with new media business Cynobia AG and TV-station TM3.

Sanjay Sharma, Managing Director, Glam India
Sharma has 20 years of media and entertainment experience and comes to Glam as part of its acquisition of AdaptiveAds, where he was co-founder and managing director of its India operations. He is leading Glam India's growing operations in Mumbai and Pune.

Ashok Shrinivas, Director, Glam and Associate VP, Engineering, Glam India
Shrinivas manages Glam's technology development in India, serving as the key architect behind the design and realization of some of Glam's next generation products. He brings to Glam over a decade of experience in technology development and engineering management at the highest levels of the Indian IT industry. Most recently he headed the Software Development and DBA teams at Aditya Birla Minacs (formerly Transworks), an 11,000 person multinational BPO firm. He has held positions as a programmer and manager at several top-tier technology companies, including Boston Computers and ARDL.

Michael Meyers, VP, Network Strategy
Meyers oversees the development of all content on Glam’s O&O’s including Brash.com. Formally the President/CEO of Sheknows.com, a top 10 women’s property Meyers has been in the media business for 18 years which included overseeing four different consumer magazine companies.

Derek Houdyshell, Director, Sales and Programs
What began as a small group of seven fashion bloggers blossomed under Derek's guidance to encompass more than 900 new media publishers and content partners. If you are a publisher of Glam content then Derek is the person to contact. When he’s not helping Glam Media develop this new business model, he is most likely to be found at AT&T Park, cheering on the San Francisco Giants.

Julieta Alvarado, Director, Network and Community
Thanks to her many years of experience with market research, affiliate recruitment, retention, and marketing, Julieta has been instrumental in helping grow the Glam Network to its current size of 640 plus online publishers. A real people person, the Venezuelan native is fluent in several languages. In addition to an international perspective, she has a strong creative streak and an entrepreneurial bent. Julieta has worked previously for Adobe Systems and Cheskin Research

Tamera Reynolds, Director, African American Network
Tamera has an eclectic professional background that spans fifteen years and consists of a stint on Wall Street, a law practice in corporate, securities and entertainment law, and entrepreneurial endeavors in the areas of entertainment management and as one of the founders of a start-up media company that targets African American women. This interesting path led Tamera to Glam where she is combining her skills and experience to develop and oversee the African American channel 'Black Life' on Glam.

Souzis most recently started fashion social network Stylemob.com (acquired by GlamMedia). He is the creator of Rhizome, the first semantic wiki, and was co-founder and CTO of content distribution software vender Kinecta Corp, acquired by Oracle.

Simon Yeh, VP, Publisher Platform, Agency Platform and Tools
Yeh is responsible for building Glam's publisher and agency interface applications that allow full customization and reporting capability. Yeh has more than eight years experience leading the development of complex web applications for Adteractive, Fox Sports, NexAd Systems and Excite@Home.

Mayur Bhatia, Director, Technical Infrastructure
Bhatia manages Glam Media’s technical infrastructure. He comes from AdaptiveAds, where he spearheaded technical infrastructure development and helped architect the AdaptiveAds platform. Prior to AdaptiveAds, Bhatia held senior technical roles at Pictureal and IBM. Mayur holds a Bachelors of Commerce from Mumbai University, and a Masters in Management Information Technology from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Sharma has 20 years of media and entertainment experience and comes to Glam as part of its acquisition of AdaptiveAds, where he was co-founder and managing director of its India operations. He is leading Glam India's growing operations in Mumbai and Pune.

Wendy Mazzoni, VP, Ad Operations
Mazzoni oversees the delivery and fulfillment of all online advertising campaigns. Formerly vice president of advertising operations for Fox Interactive Media, Mazzoni led the operations, advertising infrastructure and creative services teams supporting the sites of MySpace, IGN, AskMen, American Idol, RottenTomatoes, Fox.com and GameSpy. Mazzoni previously held roles in both operations and production for IGN Entertainment, where she led the development effort behind IGN’s proprietary content management system and inventory management tools.

Michael Tancinco, Managing Editor, Advertising Solutions
A veteran of online city guides, Michael Tancinco was a former editor at Metrobeat.com in New York, the original managing editor for Citysearch in San Francisco, and served as a content director for Citysearch’s national operations. Michael leads Glam's ad solutions group which executes custom projects for advertisers.

Rosanna Mairena, Director, WW Publisher Operations and Ad Support
Mairena is responsible for leading technical solutions for advertising placements across the Glam Media network of sites. Mairena has more than 10 years experience in customer advocacy, partner support and services management at companies including OnVantage, Connectix, and NetObjects.

Yogesh Sharma, VP and GM, Glam Advertising Solutions
Sharma, is a media and technology entrepreneur, and joined Glam Media as part of its acquisition of AdaptiveAds where he was a co-founder, chairman and CEO.

Bonni Evensen, VP, Design
Evensen has 15 years of experience in design and illustration and has worked with clients such as Adobe Systems, NetObjects, Chronicle Books, McGraw-Hill, and Sottsass Associati.

Art Schram, Director, Product Management
Art manages the development of some of Glam's next generation products. He comes to Glam as part of its acquisition of AdaptiveAds, where he managed successful interactive campaigns for numerous top brands, including HP, Levi's, McDonald's, Paramount and many others. Prior to this, Art was Director of Product Management at Pictureal, and in a previous life he was a beat reporter and freelance journalist for national publications including The Boston Globe and the managing editor of siliconindia. He also worked on Global Knowledge Management for law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. He holds a BA from Stanford University.

Sasha Cagen, Product Manager, Social Media and Community
Cagen is responsible for Glam Apps, an apps and widget platform offering publishers tools to build their traffic and audience. Sasha joined Glam as part of the StyleMob acquisition, where she served as co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer. Sasha is also the author of Quirkyalone: A Manifesto for Uncompromising Romantics (Harper One) and To-Do List: From Buying Milk to Finding a Soul Mate, What Our Lists Reveal About Us (Simon & Schuster). Her essays have appeared in the Village Voice, Utne, Men's Health, Women's Health, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle Magazine, 7 x 7, and in numerous anthologies. Sasha's work as a writer and community-builder has been featured by more than 100 national outlets, including Anderson Cooper, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Time, and USA Today.

Sergey Shprints, Director, Ad Products and Analytics
Since joining Glam in September '08, Shprints has successfully implemented and streamlined the behavioral targeting capabilities at Glam Media. His role has expanded to productize, package and measure other unique advertising solutions. Shprints joined Glam from TACODA, the pioneer in behavioral targeting, where he headed up Strategic Analysis and subsequently managed the transition of analytics and reporting into Platform-A/AOL. Previously Shprints held positions in Business Intelligence at Beyond Interactive and Marketing Information Management at Scholastic, Inc.

Avril Graham, Editorial Director
Graham is the executive fashion and beauty editor of Harper's Bazaar and creator and presenter of the NBC Today show's segment "Today's Style/Fabulous at Every Age."

Jill Swid, Style Director
A fashion editor and stylist to the stars, Swid has headed fashion and beauty departments at Mirabella, Talk, and most recently, Radar. She has created looks for the likes of Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Sienna Miller, Claudia Schiffer, and others. Swid has also appeared as a fashion expert on The View, Extra, and Living It Up With Ali and Jack.

Martha McCully, Fashion Director
McCully is a beauty and lifestyle expert with over two decades of experience in magazine and online publishing. As the former Executive Editor of InStyle, Beauty Director of Allure, Contributing Editor of Elle Decor and Executive Producer at Oxygen and Gloss.com, her expertise includes home design, beauty, health and style. Martha also was a judge on the hit HGTV show Design Star for three seasons.

India-Jewel Jackson, Beauty Editor
Immediately after graduating from Howard University, Jackson began building her publishing career by consecutively interning with Shape, CosmoGirl!, Seventeen, and In Style. After a brief stint living in London, where she enrolled in postgraduate journalism courses at the London College of Fashion, she worked at Ladies' Home Journal online and More.com.

Nola Weinstein, Fashion and Shopping Editor
Weinstein brings her fashion and digital experience to Glam, where she oversees the network's fashion and style content. Prior to joining Glam, Weinstein was associate fashion news editor at IMG's The Daily and Fashionweekdaily.com. Her work has also appeared in Seventeen, YM, Radar, Elegant Bride, and Women's Wear Daily. She is a graduate of Emory University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Lauren Barth, Entertainment and Celebrity Editor
Before joining the Glam team, Barth worked at a boutique fashion PR firm where she handled editorial pitches, press releases, product placement, celebrity gifting, and event coordination. She is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

 

Finance

Stephen Recht, CFO
Recht has more than 30 years of operating and finance experience, including IPO, secondary and private venture funding. Prior to Glam, Recht was CFO at Shutterfly, Inc., where he was recruited to prepare Shutterfly for an IPO, which was completed in September of 2006. Prior to Shutterfly, Recht held CFO or COO positions with SkyStream Networks, Brience, Allegis and NetGravity/DoubleClick. He has directly managed operations meeting Sarbanes Oxley requirements of public companies at both a board of directors and CFO company level. Recht holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Economics from Stanford University. 

Roxanne Brady, VP, Finance
Brady brings 20 years experience in the Silicon Valley to Glam Media. She has held senior finance positions at both private and public companies in software, biotech, and manufacturing. Prior to joining Glam Media, Brady was Chief Financial Officer of Business Engine, Inc. a global software company. She started her career as an auditor at Coopers & Lybrand in San Jose (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) and is a licensed CPA in California (inactive). She holds a B.S. in Accounting from Santa Clara University.
